Ford to kill Manual?

Hey I was at a bud's today and he said he heard Ford is not going to have the option for Manual Shift on any Super Duty's,

Now he's freaked out, he's a guy who loves that option, special ordered his F350 that way some years back.

So is this true?

well to an extent, they will now offer a gear selector with the auto so you can choose whichever gear you want to be in for certain situations. Dodge and GM already have this and they work pretty good. Won't be long and Dodge will no longer off the manual either I don't think

Good idea, it's a worthless tranny anyway. I don't know why anyone would want to spend energy on shifting. If you added up all the worthless time and energy you spent on shifting over a 10 year period time at $15 per hour you would have a ton of money. Dangerous too, while you are concentrating on shifting you could be watching your driving better. You couldn't pay me to buy a vehicle with a stick.

you can't pay enough to make me let a transmission select my gears...

the lockout on the new TS6 is nothing close to a manual...make no mistake about it, it is just like every auto since the T

EXv10, your joking right. Maybe we should take that radio out with all those buttons and all ,driver could get confused and not concentrate. What about the window crank can't keep your hands at the 10 & 2 position. I don't think the manual is all that bad just a pain in heavy traffic. What ever floats your boat... drive it.

The Torq-Shift is a Great transmission for sure,,,,there are some advantages to each,,,, Auto's and Standards for sure,,,,I think learing to drive on a stadard is a Great idea,,Just to get the Hang of it,,,I dont really see Fords point of not offering it,,they will loose some customers,,,,But I for one like the auto,,,Tow/Haul mode is sweet,,,parking on a hill is easy,,,,Hooking up my plow,,drive up to it,,,,leave truck in gear(plow is on a slight hill) get out,,truck stays right there,,,Hook things up,,,away I go,,,,I wont miss not having a standard in my truck,,,I have my 68' Torino 4-gear for that !!

this debate could go on forever. but I disagree. standard has alot of perks. you control when it shifts, less electronics to go wrong, etc.... and as far as dangerous. if you go into a slide do you ever remember to put your auto into neutral to kill the power to the wheels or just go along for the ride. any manual owner will instinctively push in the clutch. I have been saved on crappy roads alot more with a manual shift over my old auto. but that being said. I only have the manual shift on my work truck. cant stand long trips trying to shift/eat or shift/drink, and unfortunately have never owned a manual with cruise. (I know they are out there just never found one for sale)

Arguing the merits has nothing to do with it

It's not the mfg's fault either, it's YOUR fault in that YOU are not buying them....

Say it's 1 in 1000 that buy a manual (and think I am being WEIGH optimistic!!!),
if you were running the company would you spend the money on that small a customer base ?

As with most things nowdays, it's all about the money....

How about this ?
Free Enterprise will let Ford kill it and you start building manuals for that niche market....

Guess you have a chance to make a living at it !

I really wouldn't guess you'd get much of a investor backing though....

They just dont sell enough to keep them in trucks. Most people now days don't want one or cant drive one. It wont be long before the manual becomes a thing of the past, but I really like driving mine because it makes everyday driving fun.

That makes no sense at all.

Phasing out the manual trans is just a sign of the times. Sure some people prefer it; most people don't; somethings you can't do anything about.

But this post about worthless time shifting and $15 per hour is just _____________ (fill in the blank with anything anyone sees fit).

Thats why I just bought a 2010 F250 with a 6 speed as I heard the rumor about its demise. It is very easy to drive, actually.

With the stick, I don't fear paying for a transmission rebuild when the truck gets old in which the cost could likely exceed the value of the truck. Nor do I want to be enslaved to the Ford Stealership for "reflashes" and fluid changes.

A friend of mine had to have a 5 speed automatic in a little Ranger rebuilt. Cost over two thousand dollars. No thanks.

But it is true that many people can't drive them anymore, so it is a sign of the times. But for those of us who truly like rowing through the gears, its a shame.

simple emmissions control, pcm can very precisely control shift points due to rpm engine load etc. pcm cannot control the drivers actions such as lugging engine, was told this in the early 90's at a gm training center.

Usually you save $1000 getting the manual instead of an auto. Hell, I'd pay a $1000 premium to get the manual.

Manuals are disappearing because of the sheer laziness of the general population. That general population wants tons of pointless electronic crap too and that's where the money is made; so it's what you get, whether you want it or not. It's the normal progression* of society, not much you can do about it.

*progression sucks since the quality of life steadily deteriorates
