Roller Rocker question

Im in the process of getting everthing together for my "stage 1" performence upgrade to my 1995 f-150 5.0L HO

Ive got GT40P heads off of a 98 ford explorer (waiting to be magnafluxed) and i am pricing roller rockers from summit.
Ive heard that 1.7 Rollers are the best option for more power,
but the problem is when i got to summit there were way more variables than i thought

Rocker arm mounting style, stud size, slot size, slot width. all confusing

Rocker Arms - SummitRacing.com

I just need a set of roller rockers that get the job done and are as cheap as possible

ty for your help

The GT 40s are pedestal mount , thats what you need , so don't look at the stud mount , just pick out the pedestal mount rockers you want ... Lew

I just installed scorpion 1.72 roller rockers and I like them. if your valve train is stock you will have pedestal style mounting rockers. If your valve train is in good order then they should bolt up to the stock pushrods and have the correct lifter preload. Only modification I needed to do is bend the baffling in my valve covers to clear the rockers. Your looking to have between 1/2 turn to 1 full turn torqued at 20 ft/lbs from 0 lash.

Yeah if your motor can grill your heads for screw in studs would be good , then you will have adjustable valves, much better ...Lew

The heads on your motor right now have those parts I'm sure, and besides that I believe new rockers will come with all the hardware anyway.

Of course he does.. the heads will need to be machined, drilled and tapped for studs and he stands a good chance of getting the work. Studs are overkill on a stock motor so it's not money well spent IMO.

I agree for a stock truck its not worth it to go to screw in studs , but if you start building the motor there nice to have but not mandatory .... Lew

But if you're really going to "build a motor" you'll be swapping on better heads and they will likely have stud mount rockers anyway.

Yeah if he were to go with some nice aftermarket heads , Yeah adjustable is the best way to go . I think all heads should come that way , like the old chevys ...

I am able to get my hands on a set 0f 1969 351 hi po heads. Do these come with stud mounted rockers? They should bolt up to my 1984 engine block without any mods right?

I have a set of 69 351 heads on my 302 , they have screw in studs but i think they were drilled & tapped & had bigger valves put in them . Thats the way they were when i got them , Im not sure but i think they came with press in studs ?? ..They will fit ok , if there going on a 302 you will need the bolt kit because the 302 has smaller head bolts , ARP makes a bolt kit for it ....Lew

Both pressed in studs and pedistal mounted rockers are more than capable of dealing with the relatively mild stock valve springs and camshafts. It's only when you get into high lift cams with stiffer springs and you start reving the motor beyond 5000rpm that screw in studs become necessary.
