Well if you were worried about the cost of a intake..........Poping in a 390 should be a bargain? I must have missed the point somewhere.

You seem to unaware that any 390 4 barrel manifold will work on the 360 and 4 barrel 390s are like hondas, they are everywhere.

Look back to first post, "I need more low end torque, if I lug it down too much it doesn't have enough power to pull a steep hill at low speeds like 5 miles per hour without putting it in granny gear. Thanks for any info"

It was asked already, how is swapping to a 4 barrel gonna increase low end torque? He says he has 4.10 gears and he can't pull a hill. He can't go much lower than that.

Something is bad off in his setup. While the 360 was considered a dog by comparison it is still a FE and a good truck motor. I haven't driven one in a while but recall they had plenty of power. I drove a company truck on occasion and it may have been the gearing in it that made the power.

I agree, there is something wrong here. I would suggest a compression test because the motor does not sound healthy to me.

Actually, "any" 390 intake won't work right, you'd need one to match the later high, short, medium riser type ports in the 360 heads, something with a C6 casting number or later, or even a late 390 pickup manifold. Streetmasters, Street Dominators, Performers and Performer RPM's also have the modern high port. Early 390 intakes have the tall port, which was proven to have a lot of dead air at the bottom, and will give you a bad, turbulent mismatch with the taller port emptying into the shorter port in the head, and you'll still have a bowser 360- maybe worse, instead of better

I should check it empty on the highway. Thanks for your advice.
If your asking me, I'll dig up the parts I bought and the information given by Bullet and others here on my build. Just let me know if your interested. I'm running 3:73's. My favorite gear for a little performance and a little mileage. This is not a full racer, nor a full torquer, nor a full puller, but somewhere in the middle. I can pull a 25' boat/trailor, fry 33 inch tires, and pass on the freeway better than the Super Diesels. It will not hold 5500 rpm all day, cant get to 5500 rpm quite as quick as a hot built motor, but who cares? No bullcrap..If you could come to Va Beach, I'd show ya. FE's can be awsome..and I'm a cheby guy.

PS, I may have mistaken my mileage, this last tank was a little a little under 11mpg. I blame it on the cold weather and choke useage.lol

I just re-read this, and a couple of other post's. You all are correct, a healthy engine should not have these issues. Ken, as you intimated, if one is on a budget, buy a gasket kit, clean the engine and replace the stock timing chain..best bang for the buck. Mayby one will find the poor performance issue in the process, like a mis aligned dizzy, etc.
