i cant see soot on my pipes but i know they are leaking, i reached way in behind the turbo and felt the pipes and my hand was covered with soot. 2 reasons that i knew they were leaking, 1. when i would let to truck warm up i could smell exhaust in the cab, 2. i have noticed the my boost pressure was slowly going down, not having the max number i used to.
When I was working on my plow the other day my truck was smoking coming up from the back of the motor. I haven't investigated yet, but I bet this is a sign up bad pipes.

I live in eastern WA, so its a tad annoying to have only one wheel spinning in the snow...but its not something that i cant deal with if the up-pipes are a better investment
What do you mean? Mine has at least two spinning sometimes four!

hahaha, well what i'm saying is i only have traction from one tire in the back not both...would rather have both...

oh I would definitely invest in the bellowed ones, if im replacing a stock part that has a flaw i am going to go with something that corrects the problem for good.
so the answer i am still waiting to hear is whether its a better investment to put a posi-traction or limited slipp diff in the rear axle or to replace teh up-pipes

If you pipes are leaking, get the pipes, but as for the rear, here's some good reading to help with your decision https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...endations.html Roland eventually went with a Tru-Trac system, he should be by to shed some light on his setup, he likes it, me too.
I would like to know if the up pipes are the same for early 99 and later 99?
Can't see how they could be the same, the early 99 turbos sat a lot closer to the top of the engine. 99.5 and later were an inch or more higher. The length of the up pipe is in direct correlation to the height of the turbo.
Thats what I thought, but was hoping they would work. Planing on turbo upgrade next year, so looks like a temporary fix for now. Boost maxes out at 14 now!! thats not that much fun
for you early 99 guys check out dieselsite's upgrade kit. if you go without the ebpv pedestal its 692 bucks for everything except the turbo and even comes with bellowed up pipes. i dont know what clay can do with his pricing but if your considering bellowed uppies thats already 400 bucks so for 300 more you can convert to the later setup. then you would just need to get a later model turbo or a 38R perhaps......
