Tachometer problem

Tachometer problem
I have 1992 F250 7.3L Diesel with a 5 speed manual. My tachometer acts weak. The needle moves up when I accelerate, but not far enough. The needle never shows over 1000 rpm at driving speeds when it should actually be at 2000 or more. Anyone know what my problem is?

its lazy lol
but seriously it could be that the needle is dragging in the bezel or its not got enough lube in the rotating part
what ever it is its bound to be in the gauge its self
if it was the magnetic pickup or the reluctor ring it would bounce or not work at all

take a look at your camshaft position sensor this does several things including creating a signal for the tach since a diesel has no ignition system

Sorry, but I can't find the article or thread. I know it was on here. It talked about how to clean it and repair it. Maybe it was in the Bronco section or Ranger section.
