Guys not sure which was the right forum for this. Between 1980 - 1989 which Ford trucks came from the factory with front solid axles. I tried searching couldnt find a thing. (Put that down to my disability of not being able to use anything with a keyboard!)
Am i right that it was only the F350 from 80 - 89? Was it all f350 varients?
Only the F-350 from 85.5 up came with a solid front axle from the factory. All F-150's, 250's and 85.5 down 350's had the TTB independant front suspension (150's had coil springs while the 250's and 350's had leafs). When the new Super Duty's came out in '99 both the F-250 and F-350 had solid front axles.
All 70's Ford 4x4's had solid front axles. Half tons had Dana 44's, I believe most 3/4 tons did as well, just with eight lug hubs. I think the F-350s had Dana 60 fronts, but don't know for sure. I do know the 70's F350 4x4's are pretty rare. I believe the 77.5-79's are the most desirable, as they were high pinion axles.
1979 was the only year for the F350 4x4. All other years they were only available as a 2wd. The high pinion dana 60 front axle were available in F350 and F250 "Snowfighter" Packages. Most F250's from 77.5-79 had a high pinion leaf sprung dana 44 with dual calipers. The F150 regular cabs had a high pinion 44 with coils. F150 Supercabs had high pinion dana 44's with leaf springs and single calipers.
