flywheel change rfc
Im going to change my flywheel sometime soon.
If anyone has any tips, advice, tricks Id
appreciate it if you shared them with me.
(specifically, Ill be working on a 77 f100
with a 302 and C4...and the why for this
project is that the ring gear has come off
the flywheel -- and lodged itself against the
trans bellhousing -- and I thing the flywheel
may be warped.)
Thanks....Abbey

I call your part a flexplate (on an automatic) and a flywheel on a manual. You need to get a replacement flexplate w/ the proper counterweight for your 302. Unless you have a 81 and up 5.0 then you use a 28.2oz counterweighted flexplate/flywheel. I believe that you may use a 351W,351C flexplate if you find, one as well as the pre 81 302, maybe 289,255 (doublecheck on that). The other part that needs to be right is the diameter or the flexplate/ringgear. I believe the truck bellhousing uses a 164tooth ring gear. If you had a warped flexplate, did it destroy the thrust bearing in you engine? Something most suspiciosly a bad tranny destroyed the thrust in a 302 I had. I was able to grab my harmonic balancer and pull the crank back and forth within the block. If your thrust is gone, bad news. The endplay on the crank shouldn't be more than .010".
good luck
