Need a hand on windshield removal

Leaking Cab 1996 F-250

Can someone tell me how to remove the alluminum frame from around my front windshield with out screwing it up? I have started to notice that the rain can leak in at the top during heavy down pours. So I wanted to get in there and take a look. My window has a crack that runs up to the center area and it may be contributing to the issue. Sure hope I dont find a rust hole.

A visit to an automotive paint shop should turn up the tool you need. It's kind of a "T" shaped tool that releases the clips holding the trim in. Be careful and be patient and you'll be fine.

Thanks, I had not thought of a tool for that. I would have thought that there would be a starting point to start the removal but was not sure.

I've never had one out of your specific year of truck, but most '60's-'80's Fords have the same thing. Before you start, look at how the trim went together, just like pick-up sticks, some parts will be on top of others. Just start with the part that overlaps, and gently work them up. I use paint stirring sticks to go between the glass and tool, since prying against the glass will almost certainly break it. Just be slow and steady and work your way around.

the chrome around my 66 f100 windsheld can only be removed by removing the windshield... rubber and all. it has a L shaped edge at the bottom that holds it in place.
