Well once again today the 7.3 died on me twice. I was with some friends at the motor cross park and we went down to the mud pits to watch people in the mud. Key word watch not participating We were cruising around the out side of the pit and stopped for a second and it just died like I turned off the key so with out turning the key all the way off with it in warm up mode I tried to start it and it would not but if I turned the key all the way off and then tried to start it it starts right up It did it once more and same time if I tried to start it with out going all the way off it would not start? I am lost on this one? CPS? HPOP? FUEL? At least with the 6.4 it told me on the dash before it was going to turn off Merry Christmas every one!
Thanks
Nick
Shutting off like the key was turned off is an electrical type issue. Fuel and oil can be ignored for now. CPS is a possibility since it sends an electrical signal that the PCM can't do without. Chaffed wires are also a possibility.
What exactly were you doing when this happened? Turning? Pressing brake pedal? Moving gear selector? The common chaff points are the 42 pin connector over the drivers side valve cover, a harness over the drivers side front shock, wires inside the steering column.
Any dash lights flicker or act funny when this happened?
Well I did notice the other day that the door buzzer didn't chime when the steering column was all the way up but when you went down one notch it came on. I relay hope it's not that me and finding bad wires do not go together well
Vibration? If it's not making a good connection,,, I know I was letting mine warm up last year and when I put it in gear, it shut down. Took a while before I thougth to check the plug at the back of the switch and wha-la, it had come loose, snapped it in and away I went. I had bumped it at sometime and caused it to come loose.
On the other note, did you move you steering column while sitting still? or depress your brakes prior to it shutting down?
Bet you have a short under the dash. Seen it too many times before. It will be on your ignition circuit and works just like turning the key off. Try moving the column up and down while tuning the wheel and working the brakes. It will kill the engine or blow a fuse is that's the problem, If it's the tuner connection, well that's easy. Good luck and keep us posted.
Oh yeah, it's been a while, but I think someone had problems similar to yours and found a bare wire on or near his brake pedal under the dash. Try having a look around the pedal assemble, might get lucky and see the problem.
