Gonna be in Dallas for two weeks in February ~ Houston for one week in March ~ and back to Dallas for another week in May!!!
I need to know a few places to go get some good BBQ!!!! I went to a little place in Houston a few years ago, and am looking forward to doing it again!! But, I don't know about the Dallas area.
lots of good places, I just haven't been there in about 5 years and don't remember the names or where they were, I normally went to Arlington or Hurst for helicopter school.
so to solve that problem I right now have 2 briskets (cut off of the grain fed Black Angus I butchered last week) smoking for about 2 more hours.
just pulled out 20 pounds of ground Elk out of the smoker and made a huge batch of my soon to be world famous chili.
I lived in Houston for a few years when I was a little boy. Where I grew up was 2 hours from Houston. I wish I could assist you with your quest of good BBQ, but let me tell you, any food down there is good food!
If you go for Mexican, make sure to get beef Fajitas if they're from Casa Ole or Crazy Josea's!
I've been to many many places in Texas and always had a great time both in the military and as a retiree. Some of the most patriotic folks I ever met were in Texas and I can respect that.
Yea. Be more specific. Dallas and Houston ain't exactly cities you want to drive across town just for some grub. Too much traffic and odds are there's good food in the area you'll be near.
Sonny Bryant is a decent BBQ chain type in Dallas, but some of the best stuff is the little hole in the wall places.
As mentioned, don't forget to mix in some good Tex-Mex while you're down here.

Oh, nummy!!!! I love the burnt ends!!! I wonder if they'll let me have those at the restaurants?? I'll have to ask.

Oh, I'll be down there long enough that I'm sure I'll get to try several different things!! Maybe I'll write a blog on my adventures down there!! It will give me something to do in the evenings, besides just drink cold beer, that is!!

Ha! Ha!! Ha!!! Wish I could, but you know as much as I do!!! As it gets closer, I'll have more details!!
Wish I was going to Texas, my in-laws live in San Antonio, and I love it out there. I haven't been out there in the heat yet only Fall and winter, guess I might change my mind if I went in the summer. We went to a Texas Roadhouse in November when we were last out there, its a chain, but I still loved it . hopefully the wifey and I will be moving out there within the next year. I hope.
You're going to pass right by my house on your way to Houston.
Anyway, in March a must do in Houston is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It's the biggest and grandest rodeo in the country. Only the top riders are invited to compete.
I will find a link for you.
As far as BBQ goes, in Houston there are tons of BBQ joints. The best in town is Lyndens in North Houston, just off of 290. Stay away from the chains, they suck. You want the hole in the wall, mom and pop joints. Also, don't fall for the Texas Roadhouse thing, if you want a steak in Houston then you go to Flemings, Saltgrass, or Kirby's.
Holler at us when you're heading to Houston. We'll meet up with ya for a beer.
Bunny, you might want to try spring creek bbq, they are pretty good, make sure ya grab the fresh rolls that they walk around with. Wife is from Arlington and I just got off phone with her brother. That was the recommendation.

Merry Christmas
There you go I knew I would think of one of them it was spring creek!
bunny, the other brother highly calls for Angelo's or Railhead in Ft. Worth; would rate them better then Spring-Creek for overall true BBQ flavor. AND, the beans at Angelo's or Railhead are fantastic.
hope I helped a bit
