Metal on the drain plug is never a good thing.
The 15/40 in cold temps will give you higher ppm's
from lack of flow cold. Best was to change to the 5w.
I would just keep an eye on it now. The last test really
was a very short run on the oil. If the high ppm was due to the 15w
use cold, i would expect to see it start to fall with the use of the 5w on the next few tests. It takes time to clean the system unless you do a flush with the oil change.
On motors that have had a failure and repair, i have just drained the oil
and dumped a gal of kero thru the motor. Let drain over night, or use
shop air to help with complete draining. (from the oil fill)
Post your stone report over here.
You will get some good info on what to do and lookout for.
I would not be super concerned about what you are seeing. This few of tests over a short time is really not hard evidence of any major issue. UOA are best used over the long run of the engine. Get a few samples over the next couple 1000 miles and see where it leads. My iron and lead numbers are always high. I have put 50K on it since I bought it and it hasn't gotten worse and it hasn't self destructed YET!
Y'all sound like a bunch of worry worts. If you are loosing sleep over it, rebuild it. Otherwise drive the damn thing like you stoled it until it comes apart then fix it!
