Romp Romp Romp

Hi all,
I have Rotella T conventional oil in my truck now. If I don't plug in in weather around 20* or below, the truck will start easily, but often romps hard for about 10 seconds, and then either dies or smooths out. If it dies, it can be restarted easily, romps a little, the runs. Also, a reasonable amount of white/gray smoke when this happens. Is this just normal romping for conventional oil? I plugged in more often last year (before I saw Lostcausses's pictures *shudder*), so I don't know.
Thanks

X4, do the switch to synthetic and you'll be fine..This is the first year I went with a syn. blend 50%dino 50%synthetic Schaeffers 7000 and I'll get maybe an initial 2 romps buts smooths out fast, thats at about 17* at nite, when the weather is warmer than that, no romps.

Well, I have to change the oil soon anyway, so I guess I'll hunt around for some cheap synthetic. It just hurts really bad to spend $100+ on an oil change. How many miles do you guys go between changes on synth? And will the 5W40 synth be heavy enough in the summer?

I run 5000 on syn in the winter and 5000 miles on dino in the summer. Yes, the 5W40 syn is fine in the summer...Four gallons of 5/40 Rotella-T syn is just under $80 at Walmart and the Motorcraft filter is $10. My truck starts smoothly in overnight temperatures below zero without the block heater plugged in.

5w40 is fine for all seasons. the "40" is the same for both oils. the "5" just makes things flow alot better when its cold.
I've run the 5w40 syn for over 5 yrs now, towing heavy, hot weather and cold. It works well for me.

Yep -- I run 7-8k on my syn. I could also go longer. Basically, if you run 10k on it, you're actually saving money over dino at 5k. Of course, a lot of folks argue that they push their dino further than 5k... I just believe in syns -- every fluid in my truck is now synthetic (to include brake fluid).

My last oil change was to Schaeffer's 5-40 synthetic. I most likely will not go back to 15-40 and will definately never use Motorcraft 15-40 again. That crap made my truck romp at 50 degrees.

That's funny, Mike. When I had the Delo in, I romped at 40. Weird.
