Well my batteries died on me, I was a little PO so I went and bought 2 group 31 batteries and put them in. This is not a direct replacement but a little work and they fit.
Well they spin the old girl alot faster. Granted they are brand new and I charged them up last night.
I think it is a worth while mod. There are only 90 more CCA but the I beleive they have more reserve and better constructions.
ummmm.... OPTIMA!!!! haha. i'm glad you got the batts replaced, but its hard to get mad when batts go bad b/c they are a maintanence item. gotta replace them, but if they go dead too soon i can see gettin' PO'd. glad you got those to work though. i know Joe did the same thing and loves it
Being a cheapskate. those Optima's cost too much. The truck batteries are actually cheaper than the stock size batteries. Things like dead batteries always have to happen at the worst time. Like in the middle of trying to haul hay before the winter storm comes in.
I was thinking of changing over to group 31's myself. could you tell me if you had to make any changes to fit them. Also do you have air conditioning? I am afraid the ac lines may be in the way.
Group 31's fit just fine except the hold downs don't work any more. They are taller and longer but just fit. The only thing I did to make them fit was to hammer flat the inside lip on the battery tray. Also IMO its worth getting the 3.8 stud terminal batteries and change then ends of your battery cables. here are my batteries before I moved them to the bed of the truck. BTW if your going to get Group 31's get the highest rated ones you can find. Mine are 1125 CCA and I think there was once step up yet from there.
x2 on what TJ said. The only thing that I did different was that I only changed the negative side of the cables to bolt terminals. I bought screw on adapters for and put them on the positive side. I did this because I didn't have much time to get this done and didnt want to rush converting the positive wires over. On that note I still don't have the batteries tied down, but they cant go far, just a few more things of the list to get done.
