Hi all - I've been lurking in the background for a while now with a post now and then - I don't have a PSD yet, but I will soon (I hope...), and have been reading and learning all I can so when I finally manage to escape my Silverado into a real truck I know what the heck is going on.
I just saw a commercial for the 2010 Ram with the "Legendary" 6.7L Cummins, and had to laugh...can it really be legendary if it hasn't even been around 3 years? Seems like a better description would be "pale in comparison..." to the actually "Legendary" 5.9...
That's funny, out of the corner of my ear I heard that tonight (is that possible?) And in the back ground alarms were sounding in my head. By the time I figured out what I thought I heard, the commercial was over. Legendary???
If memory serves, it's just a re-sleeved 5.9. That's a good point Mike, but you know how it is -- I'd bet a large Starbucks coffee that something else changed in there too. Somebody check me on that fact though -- it's from a semi-reliable source, but I've had to second-guess some other things the guy told me...
If it is a bored or stroked 5.9 then it could well be legendary. That is one stout block and rotating assembly.
It is a ligheter weight engine then the 5.9
One revision they made was to shave like 50lbs off the block, their first attempt made broken blocks when power was added. Its fixed now, but its still a lightweight similar design to the 5.9 Im not a cummins guy but I remember something about the stupidity of the engineers.
12v all the way though, very durable and reliable. My N14 in the freightliner is pretty stout also, at about 480hp its a mover.
I will not talk bad about the Cummins Engine...the Dodge trucks are worthless tho rattle traps in every since of the word!!! like UNTAMND I drive a Cummins in my Peterbilt excellent truck and engine...wouldnt trade it for a CAT for anything. with its 500hp she goes up the hills out west here without very much work, and gets around 7mph with 80000lbs in the box.
