Installed a JWVB
Well first off we go and put on our rattiest t-shirt and jeans or maybe even a tyvek suit depending on how OCD you are. I now have a t-shirt covered in spots that if I cared what I looked like I'd have to throw away.
After we've done that we unwrap our new VB and our Transgo plate.

Then we drain the transmission. Trust me you're not getting anywhere near all the fluid out this way. You'll be experiencing some red rain later. I believe you need a 10mm socket.

After that we drop the pan. You'll need a 10mm socket.

Pull out this big old filter. Keep in mind it is still full of fluid. It can make a mess I promise you. This is experience speaking.

We're after that front most valve body. It takes a 10mm socket on a couple nuts and an 8mm socket on the bolts. By the way you will have ATF dripping on you and even more will rush out when you unbolt that VB and it will have fluid in it too.

Old vale body out.

And torquing down the new VB.

Clean your pan out so it's nice and clean.

Install your trans filter and bolt your pan back up again. Torque bolts to 120in-lb.
Refill and you're all set then go take a shower and scrub well you're guaranteed to reek of ATF at this point.
Now for the problems my stupid self ran into:
1: Forgot to put the trans filter in before starting to bolt the pan up
2: Previous owner had heli coiled one of the holes and I wasn't aware of it so I stripped out that hole and had to go spend $35 on a heli coil kit at NAPA.
Big thanks to Jim (rat49f6) for his help on the VB.
I only wanted to change my oil!!!

We (Greg and Jim) took the bumper off for better access to the trans cooler. We (they) installed a 6.0 trans cooler on my truck. And for all those interested in what Jim looks like:

I let that guy work on my truck?

Apparently he can work on my truck and enjoy one of Mrs. Greg's brownies at the same time. Again please be sure to thank your wife for us, Greg.
BTW anyone who can I'd appreciate it if you could rep Jim (rat49f6) and Greg (gbroehl) I think that's his screen name...
And before someone asks no I don't know how much it's dropped my trans temps by it's 20 degrees outside my trans temp gauge rarely leaves the bottom stop since lately I've just been driving to school and back.
The JWVB made a massive difference in the way my truck shifts though. Used to be I'd put it in 120r and it'd wind out and then BANG into gear. Now it's just fast, firm shifts.

I drained the pan and let it sit overnight and it was still dripping the next morning. It is a surprise when you pull the old VB off.
Mine did not come with a trans-go plate. That was in May of 2008. I guess things have changed.
The shifting does change. I drive differently since putting in the VB.

Better than a woobie..
How do you like the shifting Pete, mine hits a little hard in 80E at lower speeds but I'm used to it now, hows yours???
I haven't noticed it hitting harder at low speed but I also never really cruise easy. I drive my truck like I stole it every time I drive it. After it's up to operating temp of course.
