69' F100, BOUGHT IN 70' W/MUSTERIN' OUT MONEY. LATEST MOTOR IS 351W HAVE BEEN GENERALLY HAPPY WITH IT. AM ABOUT TO GO THRU THE MOTOR AND DO NOT WANT TO REINSTALL THE NEW PROCESS 4 SPEED. IT'S A GOOD'N BUT NOT FOR CRUISIN'. I'VE BEEN OFFERED A 79 F150 IN DECENT SHAPE IF I JUST HAUL IT OFF. I WAS TOLD IT HAD A CLEVELAND MATED TO A C6. I'M EXCITED TO HAVE IT JUST FOR ALL THE UPGRADE POSSIBILITIES,DISCS,POWER STEERING ETC. BUT I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE C6 MATING TO THE WINDSOR. WILL I NEED TO FIND A DIFFERENT BELLHOUSING? WHAT OTHER PROBLEMS DO YOU GURUS THINK I'LL ENCOUNTER?FINDING THIS SITE WAS LIKE HITTING THE MOTHERLODE!!! I'VE ALREADY AVOIDED 3 HOURS OF CHORES, AND HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY EDUCATED AND ENTERTAINED. THANKS TO ALL FOR ANY ADVICE YOU'RE WILLING TO OFFER. MY COMPLIMENTS TO THE ARCHITECT OF THIS SITE, IT IS TRULY WELL DONE. Jim...
A c6 from a Cleveland will bolt right up to a Windsor. Good thing, c6s have a one peice case, ie. no switching bell housings. Good luck and good truckin!
Thank you Nathan. I'm looking forward to it. What's her name want's to put it together and run it to Reno for hot august nights. And perhaps drag something else back with us on the trailer!! That'd be cool, huh? Jim...
Does "whats her name" have a sister, preferably with a high paying job? If you got a gal that likes truckin, keep her. (She'd probably get the truck in the divorce!!)
SHE'S GOT A COUPLE OF SISTERS NATHAN, BOTH OF 'EM OLD BROADS LIKE HER. ONE OF 'EM CAN EVEN TURN A WRENCH NOW AND THEN. MAKES IT HANDY FOR ME, CAN'T SEE MYSELF SHARIN' THOUGH. I'VE BEEN BIG TRUCKIN FOR THIRTY YEARS, ABOUT TO RETIRE, START A FEW PROJECTS, AND MAYBE GET TO KNOW WHAT'S HER NAME AGAIN.SHE AND I WANT TO DO THIS TOGETHER AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. WE'VE ALSO GOT A 59 F100 PANEL THAT WE PUT TOGETHER YEARS AGO, WE STILL LOOK GOOD IN IT TOO! Jim...
Congrats, kegler, sounds like your finally livin the good life! Tell whats her name I said hey, if you can get her out from under that truck long enough. Aint nuttin better than a pretty gal in an old Ford (or is it an old gal in a pretty Ford).
Jim, The 79 could had anything installed in it over the years. I would bet a shiny new quarter that there isn't a 351C in it. If it is a 4X4 it most likely has a 351m, or a 351-400 in it. Check it out. There are plenty of good C6 trannys around, to mate to your existing truck. A decent shape 79 would be a good fixer upper, for a second truck.
IMHO of course

John you may be exactly right, I'm hanging around here now waiting on my (at the moment favorite) son in law so we can go load it up and bring it home. I remember the truck as being a keeper, but am not sure about the squirrel cage. But I am intrigued about the all the suspension upgrades I can pull from this one. As far as spare trucks are concerned I'd like to get permission to bring home a new 250 power/stroke, super cab. Just as a spare mind you! As soon as I find the #'s I'll post 'em here and y'all can help me sort it all out. I really appreciate the commeraderie(sp)? and the help I've recieved here. And I look forward to putting this thing together as a group. Thanks.. Jim...
WELL GUYS, GOT MY FREEBIE HOME.SORTA ROUGH, SORTA INTRIGUING. JOHN YOU WERE RIGHT IT'S A 400. AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT THE STICKER SAYS. I'M NOT AT ALL FAMILIAR WITH THE 400, DON'T KNOW IF I OUGHTA BUILD THE WINDSOR OR THIS ONE. GOT LOT'S OF RESEARCH TO DO.I'LL BE UP EARLY IN THE AM POKIN'AROUND, MAY EVEN TRY TO FIRE IT UP. SKEETERS ARE BAD TONIGHT IN NORTH TEXAS MAYBE I SHOULD FIRE IT UP NOW!. JIM...
The easiest way to tell the difference between a Windsor based engine and a cleveland engine (for me) is to look at the thermostat housing. If it is going into the intake manifold then it is a Windsor. If it is part of the block just above the timing chain area then it is a cleveland. There are other external differences such as the valve covers but I first look to see if the intake manifold is "wet" = Windsor "dry" = cleveland.
Jim, The 400 is a good engine, I know you have got to be torn between using the 79 as a donor vr. fixing it up. Personaly I stay with the 351, simply because of all the work involved in an exchange. If the 79 could be made to run without breaking the bank fix her up. If the outside is a rag use it for a donor, and sell the parts that you don't use.
You can take all the good sheetmetal to Carlisle Pa. in June and sell it for top dollar. Those folk up there in the rust belt all need good sheetmetal. Mockey will meet you there and take some from you if it'll fit his truck. He's already said that he was going. :-)
