Having grown up with oil as high as 10-40, or 10-30 in summer, the 5-20 year round is interesting. And it is not synthetic. When did we get to 5-20 year round? I guess they know best?
My 98 Lincoln called for 5/30 and my 01 Escape calls for 5/20. It works fine and my Escape had 106,000+ and runs perfectly with no oil useage. Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend and is $2.77 per quart or $11.50 for a 5 quart container at Wal-Mart.

2001 or so...where ya been for the last 9 years?
They DO know best. If you want to see mucho discussions, do a search, especially in the oil forum. Probably dating back to 2001 or so...
I own/run a car repair shop for a living and I struggled with the idea of 5W-20 oil at first. I have done as much research as possible and I am going to run the 5w-20. I talked to oil tech reps, read every on line posting I could stand, talked with other service writers etc before I made my decision. The only thing I am going to do differently is I will use Mobile1 and change every 5000 miles. Motorcraft 5w-20 oil is a synthetic blend though and I believe that it is very good oil.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> The other thing I have found is that the least expensive Mobile1 I can find is at Wallyworld. I can not even touch the prices with my usual suppliers. This is amazing!<o></o> Just my 2cents worth.<o></o> Rifboy<o></o>
Mobile one every 5k. Most authorities say that the blend oils are more marketing hype than technology. Full synthetic or good old fashioned "mineral" oil. Valvoline racing is considered superb oil short of the synthetic option. However, I have an 88 Bronco with 465k miles that has had nothing but Valvoline mineral oil - all original, never taken apart. So... lots of opinions on this matter.

If I recall, my 97 called for 5x20 and at that time Motorcraft was about the only brand avaialble.
My 01 had 170k on it when I traded it. It ran like a champ, even had the original plugs still. I have only used motorcraft oil and change the oil based on filling the page on a small note pad. Somewhere around 350-450 gallons of fuel, and the mileage will vary greatly based on summer towing of a boat.
I just had my truck at the dealer for state inspection and for them to fix the sagging headliner. he said do I want an oil change too? I said no, I do it myself. He said to make sure to always use a Motorcraft filter and be sure to document the oil change as well (keep the receipt for the filter and oil). guess Ford HQ is cracking down or something if you turn out to have any future engine problems...
I always buy the Motorcraft filter and 5w20 at Walmart too as mentioned.
I have spoken with a couple of different Ford dealers who are owned by different people in different states (AK and ND) about the types of oils to use. Surprisingly, the I got the same answer from both dealers. Use the synthetic blend 5-20W. The recommended not using full synthetic because it does too good of a job and will cause the rings and other engine components not to seat properly. Strange.

This is totally bogus! Just another old MYTH .These newer engines the rings (Moly Rings)are seated in the first 100 miles, no more break in like the model a fords lol. We put full synthetic in my fleet of 20 at the first oil change 3K miles and have never had one use any oil at all. I would stay far away from a dealer that ever told me that! Also the oil today is light years away from the old days oil and will perform great.
