Hey guys, I have a 89 F250 351w, ZF5 speed 4x4. My question is concerning my clutch pedal. Pressing the clutch feels like normal, however at the end of it's travel it gets real hard. Actually have to stand on it to start the truck. I've dealt with it so far but it is really a pain. So today I looked under my dash. What I found was that when the pedal reached all that resistance it was bottomed out( hitting the black rubber stop). Now to get it to start or go into first or reverse I have to stand on it, pushing the pedal past the stops making it pivot more at the top. Fluid level is good so is this just a matter of clutch out of adjustment or something else. Thank you
I had the same thing happen where I had to stand on it to get it to start - ended up that the actual bracket that holds the pedals was cracked and flexing, which would not allow the clutch pivot to push the rod far enough into the master cylinder. Got a new bracket from the dealer and replaced it - no problems since. Might want to check it out again and see if yours has the same problem. Good luck.
Ok, I found no cracks in the assembly. Wile I was under the dash I noticed that the clutch pedal was not resting against the other black rubber stop(released position) So, I pulled the pedal to where it was supposed to rest and everything moved. What it is, is the pivot rod running across the assembly is loose in the hole above the clutch pedal. I see no evidence of what is supposed to be inside that hole to center to shaft. Is there something that goes in there that needs replacing or do I need to get a new bracket setup?

There are little green plastic bushings IIRC. Hopefully the hole has not been enlarged too much that replacing them will not fix it. I got mine at the dealership for a couple bucks....that was about 8 years ago....can't remember part numbers or exact prices....
Yeah that hole is wollered out. I guess the prior owner must have drove it like that for a wile. I meant to look at it sooner than I did, but the only time I remembered was when I was in the truck. Went to back into the driveway the other day and having to stand on it made me spill a full can of soda between my legs. Pissed me off enough to remember to look at it. Oh well, I get to go play in the junk yard tomorrow. Thanks for your help
i had so many problems it was one thing right after another, the hole on the petal assembly ob-longed so i had to get a replacement guess the plastic bearing type things dont hold to well after that it was the firewall where the master cylinder mounts was cracked away kinda hard to describe but it was splitting apart and flexing, some self tapping screws held up for a while until i had to weld it. then the slave cylinder in the transmission blew..its times like that where im glad its not a 4 wheel drive
