I couldn't really find the info needed on a search so I'm sorry if his was discussed earlier.
I have an F450 4x4 that has a rod out the side of it. The only engine I have found is out of a 1997 van. I'm sure the shortblock is the same but I'm hoping that I can swap the whole engine in without changing much on it.
Are the intakes the same on the older van and newer trucks.
Are the oilpans the same.
Are the acessories the same.
I can swap the oilpan and other things easily, I really need to know if there are any major differences in these two engines.
The 97' will have less HP and TQ than the 01' mainly because the 01' has the PI (performance improved) heads. The 01' has 310hp and 425tq and the 97' has around 275hp and 410tq and starts running out of breath a little above 3k rpm. Your best bet is to try and find a V10 from a 2000-2004 F-series because it has the PI heads.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if the acessories are the same.
Not a big deal if the van is different but would be nice if they were.
How about upper intake. I'm concerned the van is different because of space limitations.
Im pretty sure that the only difference is the non PI heads. If the oil pan was different then you would have to also swap that out along with the sucker rod for the pan. I have seen many in the junk yards and they seem identical.
The intakes were not the same between my '99 and the 2001 intake I used when I did the PI swap. The 2001 intake had a black plastic lower "body" with much shorter runners. The '99 was aluminum top and bottom with really long runners. I can't for the life of me remember if the intake ports were the same between the non-PI and PI heads.... I'm thinking not. I want to say the PI ports were more opened up?
But I may be confusing facts. I was also playing with 3V heads and the intake ports on those are radically different from 2V.
