I recently took ownership of a 1976 F250 and am having a heck of a time filing it up at the gas station. I can only let the fuel trickle into the tank because if I even go halfway with the fuel nozzle the gas just pours out. This truck doesn't have the fuel doors like my 1977 F150 had.
if im not mistaking There should be a hoseclamp holding the filler neck up to the bed. Look to make sure that it has not broke. If it is it could let the neck drop down and make filling up dificult.
I too just bought one of the new old trucks and realized that until I get around to replacing the filler hoses that I really have to lean on the nozzle to get a good seal, but I still loose a little fuel. The original hose tends to collapse and the replacement job is a real PITA.
mines the same way (75 f250), drives me crazy but it ain't changing. i'm pretty sure the pump nozzles back in the day were curved just a bit different than they are now. sometimes if i hold the pump at just the right angle i can let it flow otherwise i stand there forever pumping 10 bucks worth
