I have a 97 f150 with the 4.6. I am runing 35s and was wondering what I could do as far as gears to get back some of my lost power.

What do you have now? 3:55 or 3:73? A 4:10 would be a big help and you can function at highway speeds.

Not sure what I have. I will go and look when I pull it in the garage tonight. I have been hearing 4.56 is the best for 35's. I basically lost my torque.

It's a 4.6...it didn't have any torque to lose in the first place

If you had 3.55's to begin with, a 4.10 would bring you back to stock overall gearing.

I have a 97 with the 4.6 but am running 33X12.5X16 tires and have 4.10 gears. With this ratio, I am running just a lower gear ratio than the stock 3.55 that it came with. I would have gone with 4.56 but I got the rear gears for free so that helped the decision. If I were you, I would go with at least 4.56, since higher revs on the 4.6 are not a problem and it puts you more in the power band of the motor at highway speeds. Also, my mpg increased with the lower gears. The engine does not have to work as hard at a higher rpm.
