My buddy has a 2007 F-350 with the 6.0 and an Automatic transmission, only 17,000 miles. The first week of January his truck is going back to the dealer for a week to get the bed plate fixed, or replaced under warranty. Since he doesnt know much about modding the truck, I talked him into getting ARP headstuds installed while the truck is at the dealer. And shortly after he gets the truck back we are going to put an EGR delete in. He already has a volant intake, a 4 inch MBRP exhaust with no cat, and a muffler delete, as well as a tranny temp guage, egt gauge, and boost gauge.
The next thing on the list would be a tuner. Hes been looking into Edge, and Banks. But after reading around on here im trying to tell him a custom tune is the best way to go. Problem is, I dont know much about them. So I cant quite point him in the right direction. From the info I have gathered, it seems Spartan, or an SCT with Innovative tunes is the way to go. Money isnt a problem. So which would be the best to get? How could he go about ordering one of these?
either sould do well.
o and just an fyi thing if the bed plate is bad you dont replace it. It gets a short block.
you can however reseal a non warped one
First thing I would recomend is getting rid of the am air intake. The factory one is the best for these trucks. Next if he wants to do a tunner stay away from canned tunners such as edge and banks. Rule of thumb if it has shift on the fly it's not good for the truck. They are known to cause big problems with the 6.0. Spatan has probly the best (most expensive of the two) tunes. You have to get ahold of matt at Spartan diesel tech to get one. Sct is runs a close race with them for the best. If he wants to go that rout go to innovativediesel.com and order one there it will come with 3 custom tunes from Eric. He is real good with 6.0 tunes.
So when you order the the SCT from Innovative, theres no selecting tunes or anything? It just comes with everything you need right away and your all set to go?
no it does have a few canned tunes. you can also order with custome tunes, when you get the tuner you will need to download the calabration and e-mail/call the tuner with the info. and tune files should show up in you e-mail in box.
Weren't Custom tunes like $75 dollars? Now, might sound like a small chunk...but when it comes to making sure your engine and transmission are working in harmony...it's one of the most worthwhile investments if you get a tuner!
Sct with custom tunes should have him laying down low 14's in the quater possibly 13's on tuning. With a banks or edge he would be a little closer to low 15's or high 14's
I've got an SCT X3 with 3 custom tunes from River City Diesel I'd be willing to part with. Don't know if the tunes would be good for him or not...they are dependant on truck strategy. Still, you could get some different tunes and load them up pretty easy. Let me know if you might be interested.
The tunes are 75.00 a peice or you can get a special 3 pack deal. If he did some searching around, you can pick up a Livewire for around 400.00, saves you about 100.00 off of retail. Basically, you dont have to buy their tuners for 570.00 and pay 225.00 for there 3 tunes. Just a little education will save you hundreds of dollars
I recently got three custom tunes from gear head performance for $100 and they are great. Made a huge difference. But I have not tried the others, so I cannot compare.
