DPF delete w/out throwing codes?

Hey all. I'm new to here and to diesels. I've got an 08 F350 Crew cab FX4. I want to to some upgrades including DPF removal.

First, my buddy with an 04 F250 6.0 with Magnaflow and Edge tuner says if he could start all over again, he'd go with all Banks stuff. He claims their stuff will protect your truck more than any other tuners, etc. out there. I just wanna get the most power outta my truck with the least harm done to it. Does this sound right to anybody?

Second, I've read a lot on here about DPF deletes. They sound great! I'm just worried about voiding the warranty on my truck. Has anyone got called out on it at say an oil change or anything at the dealership? Also, what do I need to do with the DPF delete so it won't throw any codes?

Thanks for the info. This seems to be the best forum with the most knowledgable users, so I hope you'll steer me the right direction!

Welcome to the FTE. Yep, here you can find some real mccoy black smoke makers! But, alas, unless your profile is incorrect, you are going to have to repower with a diesel. As of last Ford information, no 7.3's, 6.0's or 6.4's in any F-150. Good luck.

Pretty quick to correct

Uh yeah, if you weren't so quick to correct, you'd see in my post that I have an 08 F350. My profile IS incorrect. Thanks for the heads up though.

Any helpful advice or just critique?

Don't mind him, he hates DPF deletes. I run the SCT. There are no codes, and I run a lower horsepower tune, just enough to remove the DPF and I am very happy. I average about 18-18.5, and it's very hilly around here. I pulled 4k lbs for 200miles and got 17.25mpg. These are all hand calculated. Welcome to the site and welcome to the black smoke, you can never go back!!

I've seen the SCT's in Diesel Power. Which one has the delete, or do all? Which one is better (if any)?
Thanks!

I've been running the Spartan tunes for some time, tunes are great. No coeds, i had a couple issues with the factory job 1 tuning and had a update to the most current factory flash but have had no issues. Unlike the banks, edge and bully dog the Spartan tuning tunes the tranmission TCM as well giving you a good combination of engine and trans tunning. This is a must for the torque management that modules always fall short.

SCT also does this style tunning but I have heard that the new version of the SCT has some bad shift quality reports. SCT has made refrence to these issues on there site that they are working on them. Both spartan and SCT have DPF on tunning as well, but The DPF delete will yeild the most power and milage gains.

As far as you dealer concearns it hit and miss. I fully believe if you play you pay and if you dont have the money to fix it if it breaks dont mess with it. With that being said, the service rider can be ok with it but he does not have the final say, the tech can flag your truck and the service rider can do nothing about it. Even if the service rider and the tech are on the same page and are ok with your mods you never know when a regional tech could come thru and you will still have your truck flaged. My advise is be very carefull how you handel this and keep it stock if its going in for repairs unless you are comfortable with what iv mentioned above. One thing they all hate is when a truck comes in with issues and no codes and they know could be tuner related. If the tech spends alot of time and cant find the issues because you cleared the codes he might do some digging that could be harmful to your warranty. I'm not trying to say all this will happen but its things that should be considered if your concerened about your warranty.

You want the best dude, hands down no questions asked... go with spartan diesel, you will have no regrets at all. I havent personally used SCT but i do know people who have had both and they will swear up and down how much better Spartan is by far.... Not only am i getting alot better mpg but the power is ridiculous, its a untaimed animal on steroids! If you want the best, go with spartan...!

I got my spartan tuner w/ DPF delete on my truck last week and out of all the things that i have done to my 6.4 this is the best. I love how it takes away the delay when you first step on it. The power is always there but you can still drive like a grandpa if you want. So far so good with spartan. Haven't seen any bad reviews yet. If you do the delete, just save your dpf just in case you gotta go to a dealer. Its about an hour to change out.

This is a very good point. The DPF is around 2500.00 dollars to replace, the cat is around 850.00 and the piping from the DPF back is around 750.00. Dont throw them away.

Banks stuff tend to have a lot of protection features in it but it won't protect you warranty. If you want a DPF delete you should go with someone elses product. Banks states they will have their off road version out at some point down the road but Banks is definitely not the highest power or quickest to market maker of chips for Ford. I have not had any luck with Edge products and have not tried Spartans............Yet but soon will once my wife gets off my back.

I'm looking into getting the spartan and the whole delete kit, what horsepower options did you go with on the tuner when you bought it? I already have 5" smoke stacks and can't wait to see the trail behind me when I purchase the spartan kit. Any info would be great help.

Spartan, Spartan, and Spartan! The only way to go... If you plan on doings mods to your truck, remove them before going in for service, or talk with the dealer. Some are ok on certain things, with others there is just a no mod policy! I wouldn't take a chance without talking to the dealer first, or completely removing them. You will definitely love the power of Spartan. Customer service is great, and the DashDaq is an amazing instrument that can monitor almost anything you wish. Also has an add-on GPS, and future upgrades to include:
Listen to MP3s. Listen to music on DashDAQ's 16-bit built-in stereo and 2-watt internal speaker, or connect your own speakers to DashDAQ's stereo line-out. Look for an MP3 Player application for DashDAQ in the near future!

Watch Digital Video. Play full-color video with stereo audio directly on DashDAQ from an MMC card. Look for DashDAQ’s digital video player application soon.

Play Games. Because DashDAQ is a powerful Linux computer, games and other entertainment applications can be loaded and played directly on DashDAQ. This “toy” can do almost anything! Check the DashDAQ website often for new stuff—a lot of it free to download.
