I installed the 9t517 kit yesterday and fuel pressure went from a rough 52-55 to a soild 58psi. after about 10 minutes it dropped to 57. since my target fuel pressure was 60-65 psi I performed a BB mod, which increased my pressure to 65. Maybe I had problems by my truck is more responsive off idle and the injectors are a little happier going do the road. Most improvements are at light throttle. Now I can hear that the drive shaft needs some attention.
I hear turbo and tail pipe

pull the spring out the plunger and put a BB in before you reinstall the spring.
Yes a real BB. I didn't even remove the fuel line to do it.

I just did the BB mod, it was free and bumped my fuel pressure from 52 idle to 63 idle. Also, WOT used to drop to 44, not it drops to 55, much better. For the BB mod just place a BB between the brass cup and spring in the regulator, but only do this if you have a fuel gauge and have verified low pressure.

I know I should have tried the BB first, but sometimes you just want to do things "right".
That will teach me, $70 down the drain! I could have bought some diesel with that.

I hear ya. I read about guys shimming this spring and I thought what could they shim it with? Didn't even think about a BB, oh well I got the kit and a GDS spring. If I wouldn't have spent it on that, the wife would have spent it at Walmart.

this matchs exactly my findings. if you drive loaded and boosted it would drop to 48-52. still great

You think I would have been ok with the 57 psi?
I never drove the truck after the kit install. I had 60+ psi in my mind
because I read that somewhere. The new spring was stiffer so it should recover from a
pressure drop quicker. There is a major difference in the way the truck feel now.
It may be in my mind because the RPMs are still @ 700 but the vibration at idle is different. It feels like it's ready to run, like when you put a aftermarket exhaust on a BB chevy.

57 psi is well in the good side of the spec.

I installed the GDS fuel spring upgrade on my 04 F350 6.0 with 127,000 miles on it. Since the install I've noticed the engine runs smoother, crisper, and maybe a little peppier at part throttle. The idle is now smooth and consistant, whereas before it was a little rough most of the time and somewhat smooth sometimes. It's well worth the $20 they charge. Simple install too.

Only if you have before and after fuel pressure measurements.

Do you have to have a guage to do the BB mod? Is the purpose of the BB mod to make the spring longer or stiffer? I havent looked at where this spring is but is there any way it could block off any fuel from the engine?

the idea is to have a correctly calibrated spring. to calibrate it takes a gauge. all aspects of the spring from length to coil diameter all effect its operation from the pressure it will hold to its ability to recoil and reseal once it pops to relive pressure.

it could casue a loss of pressure by being to weak and or venting to soon or often.
now so far as blocking off i guess you could somehow misinstall it and manage that but thats got to be near impossible.
