So would it be a good idea to get a new spring if my fuel pressure is at 42 at wot and do the BB mod or just get the new spring and go with that? I havent tested my fuel pressure yet but it sounds like somthing I should do just incase. Thanks
So as a Ford Tech Cheezit, would you recommend just the new spring? Then if fuel is still low go with the BB mod aswell?
I dont like the idea of just streching the spring. If it is already weak and giving low pressure by streching it out you are taking away more of its strength. May be short term gains but I see it failing sooner.
Thanks for any further input.
I am not an expert on spring engineering but have some experience in setting up suspensions in off road motorcycles many years ago. The compression rate of a linear wound spring is a constant ratio in pounds per inch of compression. If a spring takes 2 pounds to compress it one inch, it will it will take 40 pounds for the second inch etc. When you put the bb under the spring it causes the spring to use up some of the initial first step of compression, called preload, and causes subsequent compression forces to be greater to move the same amount before preloading. I hope that made sense. That increases the effective pressure on the fuel pressure regulator check valve. I am not sure how much actual lessening of the overall strength of this spring would occur by stretching it a quarter inch. I would think it would be minimal. Lengthening does increase the preload just like the bb does. My pressures were 52psi/no bb, 62psi/bb, 68psi/no bb stretched spring and 72psi/bb and stretched spring. As you can see the effects of the lengthened spring were not as dramatic as just the bb and stock length. Does this prove anything? Probably not but I think the lengthened spring will be just as durable as a stock spring. Hope this explains more than confuses.
Sidenote: If I make another change it will be to the FMC upgrade kit.
Would low pressure cause injectors to go bad im on my 6th one!!!!!!!!!!11
yup all day long. so will lack of oil changes. lack of maintace seems to be the bigist killer. you can also damage them with excessive water in fuel, filling your fuel tank with gas, low ficm votage.
