04 F250 XL Help

Hello, new here been reading and checking out site since Halloween. Been looking for a truck for a bit which is how I found this site. It has given me lots of good insight and for that I thank you. I have found an 04 XL CC 5.4 I think I am ready to pull the trigger on and looking for advise. Truck has 116000 miles. It is basic 4x4 no pwer options. I have them down to 8500.00 it is a local mom and pop dealer here in Iowa and he does a high volume in mid to upper milage trucks most come out of texas. The under side is super clean intiorior is almost imcaluate. Anything to check out on these before I hand over my hard earned cash. Is this a reasonable prize for a no option truck. and anyone no of an aftermarket cruise control that works with these. I have not had any lucky finding for the 04.

Thanks in advance.

Justin

KBB suggested retail value for a 2004 Ford F250 XL Long Bed with 116,000 miles is $11,500. So if the trucks in good condition seem to be worth it. See if mom and pop will let you take it to your local mechanic to check it over so forth. Only thing about 5.4 that I have heard is the plugs blowing out of the head not sure on the years they were having that problem and something else about the coil packs. Hope this helps you a little bit!

What do you plan on using the truck for?

Truck will be used as second vehicle hauling tree limbs ocasionally and a boat 1-2 times a year. Nothing major just getting around in the snow and maybe a little off road but will not be used or abused. I would guess 4-6000 miles a year tops.

Well I got it up on a hoist and both the Support bars(?) behind the rear wheels that hold the box to the frame and stop the fender from flapping in the wind work broke. Tie rods looked new as well as most of the bushing in the front end and drove pretty tight. Are the broken braces common. I think I will fork over the cash for a carfax. The bed was also full of snow since we got 12 inches in the last couple days.

Any one know of an aftermarket cruise for these. I have a horribly heavy foot and that is about all the is stopping me at this point. I finally have a clean driving record after a few speeding tickets in my younger years.

103 in 55 91 in 55 I am know a 55 in a 55 but that is only thanks to cruise.

Thanks Justin

Last spring I found my self in a similar situation.

I found this outfit : Ford

In the end I found a truck I was happy with, '04 F250 XL...It had cruise, but no A/C. So that is on my list of things to do.

Currently I have not had any of the well known issues, as described here, surface....yet.

Good Luck.

If cruise is (most likely is) pre-wired into truck all that is needed is speed servo, steering wheel, and new clock spring. Got all that from Pick and Pull for $150. Install is super easy. In the engine compartment there is an 8 pin flat plug on the passenger side fender well behind the battery. Have pics is need.

It only disconnects after a period of waiting 15 minutes after disconnecting battery. Then i also push on the brake just to be sure there is no more left over power. Then it is 2 bolts on the back of the steering wheel and one plug under the air bag. The more important thing is if that plug is on the fender behind the battery. If not i am not very helpful on a computer. I can do the wiring but only in person and I will dismantle the truck at pick-n-pull and pull all needed wiring and everything. Might cost more money but the dismantle and re-wiring makes you really take ownership of your ride.
