2002 ford sport trac. Issues with stalling for short periods or excessive fuel in system. Pressure test is 60 psi in the on position and 65 psi running at idle. No codes being produced. Could it be the pressure regulator? or a pressure sensor? If it is what is the location of a 2002 ford explorer sport trac fuel pressure regulator?
Is it normal for the fuel pressure to drop within moments of the vehicle turning off? within 30 seconds the pressure dropped almost 10 psi, I had read that the pressure should stay at least for a little while after the vehicle is turned off or is that incorrect?
I wouldn't expect the pressure to drop that rapidly. Assuming you are using a pressure gauge to measure the fuel pressure, make sure the pressure drop is real and not due to a leak at or internal to the pressure gauge.
Fuel pressure regulator, a leak, or a stuck injector could cause the pressure to drop.
Great! Thanks for all the information! I am using a fuel pressure test kit and ensured it was a solid connection before the test. The pressure was steady while the vehicle was running and even when in the on position. However the ignition in the on position is about 55 to 60 psi depending on how many times I turn the key to the on position before startup, after startup it stays at a steady 65 and then when turned off drops rapidly back to 55 psi and stays there. My next challenge is figuring out where the fuel pressure regulator is? some information i have found point towards the fuel rail, others say its in the tank with the fuel pump.
