1995 F150 I6 E40D to '68 429 E40D Swap

Hi,
I have a 1995 F150 with a 4.9L I6 and E40D trans. I am wanting to swap out the 4.9L for a 1968 429 I'm rebuilding. I understand I have a small block E40D and I have located a 1996 E40D from a F250 with 7.3L diesel.
Will the new E40D plug and hook up to my existing wiring harness?
Also, what other things should I need to locate for the swap to make this work?
Will the new E40D bolt up to my 429?
Any other thoughts or advice on the swap will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Glenn

If you plan on running a carb on that 429 you are going to need to get a stand alone tranny computer for the E4OD. These gadgets are expensive and hard to come by. I would look into running either a ZF 5-speed or C6 to avoid computer issues. Goood luck with your swap.

I hate to disagree with these guys but the trans from the diesel will not fit the gas engine.
Hopefully someone else will confirm this.

Planning to go carb and wanted the E40D for OD as this will be a daily driver.
I know the VSS is at the rear end so shouldn't speedometer work?
Also, want to retain use of stock guages, shifter linkage, etc.
I got a C6 that came bolted to 429 when I bought it but really want the OD might have to spring for the controller.
Hate to hear trans from 7.3 wont work, it was from the non powerstroke diesel 1996. The owner is going to take some pictures and get measurements for me today. Hope Lazy K is mistaken somehow but not my luck.

Hate to be the one to tell you but the diesels are on their own, none of the gas engines are the same bellhousing pattern. It may be that an E4OD from a 460 will bolt up but not sure.

Did some more reading and Lazy k is right. Ford diesel is IH pattern. But, did learn of an adapter that ford has used on some of these diesels to adapt 385 series transmitions to these diesels? Any chance this could have been the case in 1996?
