need some help with my install

i am installing a navigation system in my 09 expedition and like any other aftermarket stereo you need to hook up keyed power. well the expedition doesnt have a keyed power. where should i get it from? and why doesnt it have a keyed power for the factory stereo?

This is all I could find, it's for an 08, but it's a place to start.

Wire/Function Colour Location/Description Polarity
PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT YES TRANSPONDER SEE NOTES
This vehicle is equipped with an IMMOBILIZER passive anti-theft system. Please refer to the provided diagram before any remote start installation.
12 VOLTS Blue/red (2) Ignition switch harness +
IGNITION White/orange Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY Violet/blue or Violet/green Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY 2 Brown/yellow Ignition switch harness +
STARTER Blue/white Ignition switch harness +
TACH SIGNAL Use a fuel injector
LOCK White/black or White/brown Passenger kickpanel in fusebox or harness from door -
UNLOCK Blue/black or Blue/brown Passenger kickpanel in fusebox or harness from door -
DOORPIN See Notes Passenger kickpanel at fusebox
Independent door triggers must be diode isolated, see diagram. Green/violet, Green, Yellow, White.
TRUNK PIN Gray/orange
TRUNK RELEASE yellow/green In driver's kickpanel -
BRAKESWITCH Yellow/gray At switch above brake pedal +
PARKLIGHTS Violet/gray In plug above fuses in passenger kickpanel fusebox +

Run a wire over to the steering column, and look for the ignition wire as it exits at the column. Always remember to use a fuse though.

ill try that tonight. why doesnt the factory cd player not have keyed power wire? how does it know when to turn on?

Keyed power (accessory) is done through a data (multi function) wire in most new vehicles INCLUDING your 09 Expedition. Are you using a harness to do your nav install? If not, you should get Metra part number XSVI-5520-NAV. It will give you all the wires you need including the VSS wire for your nav.

i didnt even see that one when i was looking around for interfaces and harnesses, which sucks i ended up getting the Metra AFDI-RSE-01. metra doesnt even have that on there website.

The AFDI-RSE-01 will work as well assuming you have rear seat entertainment. It also provides keyed power using it's RED wire and VSS using blue/pink.

i read the instructions but i think that is saying to connect that to the vehicles 12 volt switch source and the rss of the vehicle not the aftermarket unit.

You got it. All those wires go to your new head unit. The plug end will plug in to the vehicles harness. Hope you get it working.
