i have an 09' expedition and put in a avic-x910bt last night. i used a metra AFDI-RSE-01 with it, but it has a 12 volt keyed power that you hook up to the HU, since factory doesnt have a keyed 12 volt supply. well the HU wouldnt turn on because it didnt have a 12 volt keyed power supply to it. so i was forced to get keyed power from something else (ignition keyed power). this morning i noticed that my line in and my rear rca jacks wont work now. this metra unit said it can use my factory line in and rca's with it. how can i tell if this metra unit is even working? it is also suppose to provide the vehicles VSS also how do i know if the aftermarket HU is getting the VSS data from the metra interface? i checked all my wires and cant seem to figure this one out. so for the long message but im getting despirate
So the RED wire coming out of the Metra module doesn't get 12v when the key is turned on? It's hard to tell from the pictures but it does look like everything is hooked up properly. Throw a multi meter on the red wire to verify what's going on with it when the key is on.
In regards to the rear RCA outputs of the X910, you say they're not working...did you at any point try plugging them in/out while the radio was powered up? Most Pioneer radios have super sensitive RCA preouts and should only be touched when the radio is powered down.
i figured it out why it wasnt getting a 12 volt keyed power supply coming from the metra interface. the interface has 2 wires going from the box to the smaller data connector. the 2 wires were wired backwards. you can see on the last picture i posted. thanks for the help.
Also on the outputs, you should see very low AC voltage. I'm thinking the range is 1.4-18v depending on the headunit for RCAs. Speaker level voltages would be in the 12-35 VAC range.
Like was said, double check switched, constant and grounds at the radio and at the interface. If you have voltages going into the interface but not coming out, then it's not unreasonable for you have a bad interface. New parts don't always mean good parts, but from my experience this is rare with metra.
