Anybody have any experience with putting a battery thats a little too wide at the top in their trucks? I replaced my dying battery with a larger one with more CCA, been in the single digits and - temps lately. Got the new one in, cranks up great, but the issue I've run in to is the stock battery bracket...the piece running across the battery with the eyes for the bolts is about a half inch to narrow to sit on both edges of the battery......
All mine has is a battery tray that has a hole in the middle of each of the two sides that are long-ways. I've got a thick rubber strap with a hook on each end, and each end hooks into one of the holes in the sides. I had to tie a knot in the middle of the strap to get enough tension. I'm not sure if it would have come that way originally, but it holds the battery down snug.

Just remembered thats actually exactly how my 70 highboy is setup...came with a tractor battery in it and has a rubber bungie holding it in, hasn't gone anywhere in some pretty wild off roading. Was thinking of something a little "classier" hahaha...for the '73, since its my nice truck, versus the highboy which is the go anywhere truck.
I found a nifty adjustable black plastic battery holdown at one of the chain stores, I think it was Advanced Auto or Pep Boys. It slides in and out of itself to adjust.
