Yep, still won't do it, but it smokes like an old 466 for a good 20 minutes at idle before she clears up. Could be the stage two's or tuning. Once she pops, the high idle kicks in and there's no romps.

Mine smokes like that too at idle... the sooner I drive it the less smoke it makes.... takes about two miles or so though to get rid of any of it.

Yep, you have to get the EGT's around 400 or so before it clears up. It's that time of year where everyone gets worked up about rough starts! It is just the nature of these beasts. At least we don't have to use ether to start these little diesels.
Bingo farm! Or is it just bing! (popup crap here)
As you know diesels in general dont like the cold as it is.
The powerstroke is top of the list due to the HEUI.
even ford reccomends changing to 10w30 in cold temps, the 15w40 is the problem at that cold of a temperature. either go with the 10w30 if you want dino oil or the 5w40 if you want synthetic
My truck will cold soak start in the mid/lower 30*F area without
the aid of the gp system with the lighter oil (syn). It rather have the gp's on
but it will still start.
I will change the oil to a synthentic probably this weekend. The truck stuggled ALOT today.... everytime I park it with the front end pointed downward on the slope of my driveway, it seems to struggle to start when cold. I wonder if its because the wind can get to it there....
I am going to plug it in til it starts warming up though.... I now know that the truck will start when its cold though without being plugged in.
1 would be the oil is more like honey at his temps.
Matt
When you change the oil, save some in a glass jar.
Let it sit a few days or cold soak time outside, then take a vid of you pouring it out.
That will scare some. HHmm--how many will run out and change their oil after seeing
the vid!
its not much of an angle.... it is probably less than 5 degrees... I bet the issue is that the wind can get to it then, and causes it to cool the engine off even more...
Parking it the other way, the fence and the garage blocks all the wind away from it.
It was -17 last night when i got up in the middle of the night and was -9 when I went to start it this morning...it sure gave me hell...
