I have read on here that my 04 X with a 5.4 would have came from the factory with a DANA 50 front and DANA 60 rear. I e mailed a guy on Ebay the other night selling DANA 50 & 60 diff covers and asked him if hey would fit, and he said Mine would have a sterling 10.5 rear and was unsure about the front. I though the sterling 10.5 stopped in the 97 F350? I just want to know what axles I should have in mine.
All Excursions, All Years, All models, came from the factory with Dana 50 front axles, and Ford sterling 10.5 rear axles.
There were no exceptions. The Dana 50 and 60 covers are interchangeable, but not with a ford 10.5
The SuperDuty pickup trucks started with Dana 50's in 1999 and changed to Dana 60 fronts in later years. They continued to use Ford 10.5 rears throughout the production.
Search for "Dana 50" and you will find that this has been covered many times.
I have a 02 excursion lt, had to replace front bearings when I bought it. The outer axle shaft on the passenger side was damaged due to the last owner letting the bearing go for so long. Replaced with a full axle assembly. long story short, new bearing was trashed, and messed up the spindle again. tried replacing the outer axel, all I can seem to find are part 2002692 and 44449. 2002692 is an spline count of 30, and spline diameter 1.31. I went to put the hubs back on, and the spline diameter is too large. I know I replaced the outer axle on the other side, and the hub worked fine. What am I missing, and does anyone know where I can find the proper outer axel...Im at a loss.
