Looking to swap axles from F550 to Excursion

I found a dana 110 rear and and super 60 front end from an 05 f550 and want to put it in my ex. If anyone has done this or knows anything about it how involved is the conversion? How difficult is it to convert to a single wheel?

My excursion is a 2000 4x4 with a dana 50 front and sterling 10.5 rear with 14" lift on 46s.

Converting it to SRW will defeat the purpose of a Dana 110. You'd be better off getting a front axle out of an 04 down truck, then it should bolt right in and not require so many changes. The rear will require lots of work. The frames on both the X and F550 are different widths.

I completely agree but this is what I have available to me right now for a cheap price. I don't mind if the axle is wider I can just make up the difference by spacing the front out if I have to. Or are you saying that the mounts will be completely different? Will the super 60 match up with my front end? And again how difficult is it to convert to a srw regardless of my reasoning?

05 and newer have completely different front axles because of the change to coil springs. You would have to fabricate all new mounts and possibly steering components too. You will need new custom wheels because of the 10 lug hubs or some HD adapters. Earth roamer does SRW conversions, so that should not be an issue. Having the right wheels made would be a challenge, unless you bought them from E/R.

It won't be cheaper once you convert everything. The 110 track width will be different than a SRW so you'll have to get different offset wheels. The 10.5 is a strong axle, but 46s would be a bit much for them with any offroad use. 46s are just a bit much for most things...

Well I guess I'll just have to junk that idea then. So what are the biggest axles I could swap in with the least headache?

Get a Dana 60 front from a 99-04 450/550. Should be a bolt in. Hubs will be different, but might be able to use your old ones. Any large rear axle swap will all require work, but a Dually rear from a F350 pickup should be a beefy bolt in. Not sure what models they use though.

Definite least headache, if you just want a D60 find a 99-04 F350 D60 and bolt it in. If you want bigger, go with some rockwells.

I don't mind doing some fabrication but not a lot because most any kind of fabricating I will need help with. The more I can just bolt right in the better. I will look for d60 and the 99-04 f450/550 rear end is Dana 80?

99-04 F450 can be Dana 80 or 110 in the later versions. 99-04 F550 will be Dana 135, or 110 in the later versions. I think both went to the 110 rears in mid 03.

If you can find a F450 SRW axle, that may be the best bet, however I think the frame width may be different, so the spring perches wouldn't line up. I would first concentrate on getting a D60 in the front, because the D50 is really undersized for 46" tires. Well, so is a D60... I would downsize the tires, but that's just me.

They never made a F450 SRW.
