When I put a flatbed on, I like to run square stock for a bumper, attach a pintle hook to that (off set it) , put a receiver tube attached to the bumper in the middle, and make arrangements for a winch somewhere in the bed. Helps pull out out backwards and helps pull stuff into the bed.
Headache rack is a must and I like to put a sheet of 12 gauge over a framework of metal, with a covering of 2x12 PT wood inside the bed. Reason being is it keeps the metal from denting and will stop a stray hook or frozen block of sand from coming through the cab. I like to keep the tire up front and fuel cans in the back.
