Unhappy problems...

I'm not sure what the deal is, trucks barely turning over, is it's the battery or the starter? I don't know why the batteries would be dead? It obviously always turns over pretty slow when it gets cold but last night got down to 13 degrees and the truck was plugged in, and today the trucks barely turning over at all and won't start. Please help. I need the truck asap to pull something today. Also which battery would be best to jump(if it is the battery?)

Start with the basics. Check connections, volts, condition of batteries. Most parts suppliers will test the batts for free. If your going to jump do it off the passenger side.

The glowplugs were recently replaced, so were the batteries. But after reading someone elses post I'm thinking there may be a bad one? Or else maybe I need to start plugging it in more often. Last night was the first night that I plugged it in so far this winter. When its been cold, it took longer for the glowplugs to relay and it started rough(after having to crank it for a bit as well I might add) after the poof of white smoke it ran just fine, not rough or anything. But I wouldn't think a glowplug would go bad within a month.

Well now that you post that you had to crank it long and a puff of smoke I would suspect a possible air intrusion. I never plug mine in and in the coldest weather it's running by the second revolution (upto last year that was with 7 glow plugs).

On my 84 6.9 I found the battery cable to the starter was corroded under the insulation (couldn't see it). Replaced it and the starting was much better!

Air intrusion where? I have taken off my intake tube and put a screen over the hole on the side of the air intake before the filterboflows much better) is this what you're meaning or something else. Sorry ill be the first to admit I am somewhat mechanically illiterate. And yes, when its cold I have to crank it for a bit, ill crank it for 2-3 seconds, let the plugs relay again and then crank for 4-6 and she fires right up.

87crewdually is talking about air intrusion in the return side of your fuel system causing the pressure side to loose prime. The result is long cranking if it has been sitting for a while and is cold. This in turn wears out the batteries prematurely. I have the same problem on my truck and I'm in the process of converting the mechanical fuel pump to an electric pump. The electric pump pressurizes the fuel system very quickly and if the glow plugs, batteries, and starter are in good shape the truck should fire up quick. There are lots of posts on how to do the conversion and its benefits.

Well okay, truck has power(lights/radio/locks/plugs, everything works) its just turning over SUPER slow too slow to fire. What now? Would a jump work? Or no?

I would try the jump. You may have poor condition battery leads or failing starter if everything else is up to par as you say.(batts, glows ect.) After your attempt of cranking are the battery wires extremely warm? Let us know, after you try a jump, the result.

Not saying anythings wrong with the starter because I don't really know, but if it turns out being one, how much does one for these trucks run, and where's the best place to get a RELIABLE one not some autozone POS that breaks after 3 weeks. Ill let you guys know on the jump, just waiting on either a jump box or some jump cables(my girlfriend has mine she's visiting her parents and took em to be safe)

Just wondering..if it was plugged in and warming the block it should still start right up [or pretty quick [even w/ a few bad plugs or AI] as I've been dealing with. Was the plug/extension cord connection warm or could you hear the block heater element working.

I heard something but it wasn't super loud or anything just a very VERYquiet buzzing.

Correction(I just plugged it in to check) no noise when the block warmers plugged in. Great. Lol...what do I do to fix this and how much will it run. Ill be trying to jump the truck in a few minutes.

Feel of your block down by the starter and see if it is a little warmer. It needs to turn over pretty fast to start. Sounds like you have either battery, cable,or starter problems or a combination of all three.
When you bought the new batteries what cca were they.
When you replaced glow plugs what brand did you use.

I am leaning toward cables on this one.

Starter would be my second choice.

Bad battery the third choice.
