First Accident

I got in my first major accident ever, sadly.(wasn't my fault) My truck had to be towed. they have had it a month now. they say they had to put it back on the frame machine. said things weren't lining up correctly when they put it back together. my question is what happens if i get the truck back and a month from now i find something wrong that the accident could have caused, or i go to modify the truck later and things don't line up because the frame was tweaked. Do i go after the dealership or insurance company if i find something wrong. i have a feeling my truck will never be the same

Sorry to hear about your truck but glad you were OK. I've never been through a big fix like yours, subscribing..

Where was the frame bent and how much? I wrecked a 99 truck where the frame was bent just a little where the front bumper connects. The body shop told me that Ford had set a maximum allowance for the frame being bent and if it was bent not very much, the truck had to be totaled. I didn't believe him, but the insurance company totaled my truck when the worst thing that would have happened is a crooked bumper.

With that said, if there's a major issue, you should be able to figure that out pretty quick. Did you ask what type of warranty the body work came with? Any engine repairs? Get something in writing on the warranty.

I'd have someone follow you as you drive around. They should be able to spot if the truck is not tracking straight or if there is any vibration or odd looking things as you drive. Odds are you'll find little things like missing or broken clips in the future.

If you are not happy with the repair contact both the insurance co. and the repair shop.

I had this happen to me once. When the repair shop said the truck was ready to be picked up, I took it for a test drive and found the steering shaft was bent. Took it back and made them fix it. Let the shop know you will not accept it if any thing is not right. Look it over real good, have someelse look it over also. Do not take it back untill you are totally satisfied. You pay your insurance to take care of you when something happens, make sure they do.

Thanks for the info. Sadly i only smacked the person going about 20-25mph and it did this much damage. she pulled in front of me. i hit the front left corner of the truck. i talked to ford again today. he said there is a bar that goes across the front to keep a car from going up underneath. when that is hit just right it tweaks the frame. he said theree is another truck in the shop with the same type of damage. i jut can't believe it has taken a over a month
