Can someone decode this engine tag? (numbersdummy maybe)
While changing the t-stat on my truck today I noticed a small tag on the engine. I've been curious for a while as to what the engine is as all I know is that it is not the factory engine. I removed a bolt, pulled the tag off and sprayed it with some brake-clean and this is what I have. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it shows the engine as a 460, maybe a 72 year model?
Anyway, enough words, here is the picture. If anyone can tell me what all the numbers mean I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, I kinda figured it was a 72 model 460. Now I just gotta find the engine specs for that year. My manual was printed in 72 and the specs were not avaliable at press time for the 460 (go figure) so all I have is 65-71.5 specs and then my next manual is 75-83. Somehow I managed to miss a couple of years there which stinks cause I have pretty much every domestic vehicle from early 50's through mid 90's and a few foreign thrown in the mix as well.
During its earlier years, pre 1973, horsepower was rated at 365. After 1972 horsepower ranged from 208 to 275. The OPEC oil embargos and such really brought the crash down on the engines HP ratings.
