take the radio out. take the lower center dash with cup holder out (below the radio ). The VSM (yes, if you have a '02 you DON'T have a GEM - but even some dealers insist on calling them that) it's the black box with three connectors/plugs. It's attached to the fire wall with 2 hex bolts - one on each side. I used a stubby ratchet with a deep socket. Took about 45 minutes and a couple of beers. I just let it hang there loose so the dealer had access to it to change it. After the reprogramming by the dealer I just put everything back in. Took about 30 minutes.
Look at post #9 to get the VSM. Ed is the guy I got mine from - Great Service and price. I had to have mine reprogrammed by the dealer $145 for 10 minutes of work. (no it did not work without the reprogramming)
In my case the original issues were with: door locks, auto headlight, curtessy light and radio - all because of a fried VSM.
