Keyless entry problem or beginning of

Happy Holidays Gentlemen, I have not been on in awhile, truck must be runnin pretty good
Tiny issue now though, I noticed Sunday the remote would not work till it was almost and sometimes right up to the window glass of the truck. I grabbed the second remote and got the same result, so bein a half smart fella I replaced the batts. thinkin they are the same age and probably die at the same time, no change. I should note that the remotes work fine inside the cab, so I would tend to think that means the module/reciever is working, but maybe some weird obstruction deal
Could anyone tell me where to find the son of a gun in a 2000 F350 drw, or maybe someone else has experienced the same problem and has the solution. Thanks, Woody
p.s. I have already gone through the reprogramming process, and no change.

When mine started doing this it ended up being the lock actuators going bad. You can do a search for the foil mod to the actuators, or just replace them. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-k-a-pita.html this is for replacement. here is the fix, post 3, it is long winded though https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...cks-fixed.html

Thanks for the response Crazy, infortunately I think it's gonna be worse than that. The alarm is also an issue and the truck has started shuttin off whenever it feels like, for example when I turn the radio on
Was able to find some similar posts by searching, not sure but it sounds like it may be the VSM I think it's called, and it will need to be replaced by a stealership due to the proprietary programming etc...

First time I have heard of this. Maybe some will chime in with some other ideas. Good luck.

I believe it could possibly be the GEM - Generic Electronic Module. Mine is toast also. It started like this and eventually the door chime won't stop dinging and it will run your batteries down. I have to pull a fuse everytime I get out of the truck so my batts stay charged. But it is a dealer only fix and its about 500 bucks.

On my 02 the VSM went out and all kinds of strange stuff was going on. Took it to dealer had it diognosed and it was the VSM, ordered the new VSM from Ed the parts guy and saved some bucks and had the dealer install themes one and program it. Saved about 150.00 bucks doing it that way. Don't know if that is your issue. Let us know what you find!

gtnwood,

If you have a '00 then you should have a GEM as SUPERDUTY OUTLAW pointed out.

On my '02, which uses the VSM, the replacement/reprograming took care of the problem.

I think the GEM is located somewhere around your fuse pannel (?). My VSM is located behind the radio, mounted on the inside firewall.

I got my VSM from Ed. Very good price !

Check him out for the GEM $.

Not sure if it is GEM related or not. My keyless entry has never worked over about 30 ft. and even after swapping my GEM for other reasons nothing changed. Wish I had an answer for you, but I am in the same boat, but not up to the glass yet, LOL.

Ok. Guys I have the same problem. My fobs don't work unless I'm sitting in the truck.
I have an 06' superduty. I just need to know if anyone found out exactly what the problem is? How much is the GEM or VSM and how do I know which one I have?

Please Help.

Merry Christmas

Chris

My remote FOB has also become intermittent. I thought it was the battery, so I finally dug out the spare FOB. It does not work either!

Yea well now I'm confused. Yesterday I had a bad day. I backed into my sons truck and crushed the rear 1/4 on my truck.
The strainge thing is now my key fobs work again. I don't think they are related but I don't know why the darn things started working again.

Any ideas?

Chris

Well I hate to post without an answer but I am having the same sort of issue, my key fobs went from working all of the time, then started working intermittently and now they don't work at all. the wierd thing is, when i enter the program mode the truck recognizes the two remotes but once I exit the program mode(open the door) it no longer recognizes the remotes or they just don't work. Very strange.

ps. I took it to the dealership and they tried with two brand new remotes and still the same result.

Merry Christmas all!

The 02s have a known VSM issue. Exactly what my VSM started to do about 3 years a go.
