Auto Start

Has anyone ever added a remote starter to their Escape? I already have power locks, so I would like to get a remote that has the start/locks on the same unit.

How about aftermarket heated seats?

We put the remote starter in the wife's Escape. I forget what kind it is (audiovox?). What happens is there is a valet key that is required to disable the PATS system. There is a way to use the factory remote but the range that you will get is not worth having it. So we are using the remotes that came with the system. The antenna for the remote start remote is stuck on the inside of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. The range is pretty awesome now.

Hi kartracer and welcome to the forum

Ford sells a good dealer installed remote starter.
Most good systems have buttons for the power door locks on the new remote starter fob. Some really basic ones dont have the capabilities to work the door locks though so just make sure you buy a system that does.

echoy97 on most systems there is a shut off button on the fob and on some systems you just push the start button again to shut the engine off. They also shut off when you press the brake pedal, when you rev the engine over X rpm, some if you release the park brake etc. They also have built in timers so the engine will only run for 10 or 20 minutes or however long it's programmed to.

Normally you leave it running. When you get in the car, you put the key on (not start, just on). After you hit the brake pedal it runs and shuts off normally.

If you remote start it and hit the brake pedal without putting the "key on" then the car will shut off. It is a safety so nobody steals your car.

If you remote start it, you can also shut it off with the remote without the "key on".

One cool feature is that you if the car is running in Park, you can hit the remote start (With the car running) and then turn the "key off". The car will stay running. This allows you to run into a store or something leaving the car running but locking the door and taking your keys with you.
