anywhere else other than a rear main seal that oil could be leaking out of the bellhousing? it only drips out when i shut the truck off. It leaks dead center out of the bell housing and out the boot where the clutch fork goes into the bellhousing. i just did the rear main seal and hope to god thats not leaking already within a day. when i shut off my truck it leaks out maybe a puddle the size of a clay pigeon haha. maybe cause the vaccum shuts off after the motor stops running and finally lets the oil drip out...i'm lost.
motor is a 400m and was supposedly rebuilt 5,000 miles ago.
The oil gallery plugs are tread on the block with allen k bolts on the top of the cam plug (2 1/4" diam for the cam plug) off center 4 inch apart and 1 or 2 inch over the cam plug. Must used scealer on those plugs.
It very difficult or almost imposible to have a good look at them with the flyweel on.
Maybe it drip when the motor is running but with all the mooving part ? Did your clutch slip ?

the clutch doesn't slip or anything...yet. i'll have to pull the tranny and flywheel and see whats going on..i hope its not the rear main that i just put in!
When you intall the rear main sceal (slip-lip) it's important to put them 3/8-inch out of its groove in the bearing cap and on the opposite side on the block. Its break the joint at your main cap and block. Apply sceal on the block at each end where the main cap goes. I'm pretty shure your leak is arround there...?
That's thue grclark351. The rope type need the small spike pin. It prevent rope seal from rotating.
If a slip-lip is used remove the pin from the back side of the cap with a 3/32 or smaller punch. Fill the hole with silicone to prevent an oil leak...
i did offset the seal in the cap and the block....but i only rtv'd the ends of the bearing cap by where it meets the oil pan. i guess oil could be leaking around the seal by the inside edge of where the bearing cap meets the block by the seal....it's only a couple drips when i shut if off. i really dont want to tear into it again without using a car lift or something...its just such a pita!
Ok! I have this same prob now, but mine pisses oil out of the bell housing. I have pulled the for a 4th time to try to fix this. I have check the cam plug and the plugs for the lifter galleys. They are not leaking. It has to be coming from the rear main seal. I have replaced it twice and the when it kept getting worse I took it to a race car engine builder friend of mine and he has done it once. It just keep getting worse every time its replaced.
