Wow, 160K. That's not even half it's life. I'm like the others, theres probably something going on otherwise. I wouldn't think that the motor needs broken apart with only 160k on it.
The crank will probably be very hard to turn due to compression. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think these things run at about a 13:1 ratio.
Like someone said in a previous post I would start with the starting system, you will have to have that even if you do a rebuild, then go from there. I feel like once that is done then you should find that the motor will turn over.
Unless someone has treated this motor really bad and filled it with water and let it sit or something. You should be able to get it running.
More like 17.5-18:1 compression ratio and the psd is considered a low compression diesel engine .
if the truck has been sitting a while I would drain the tanks and replace with some fresh fuel just in case there has been some water in them . Before I started trying to crank it I would also bleed the fuel filter housing just to insure there wasnt any water in their either . Make sure both batteries are good . The 7.3 psd needs a lot of juice to start and the injectors require at least 10.7 volts to operate . My guess about the previous owner saying it has always run funny would be the cam position sensor . Ford had a recall on them a few years back and will probably still cover your truck if hasnt already been changed .
Dude! You got hosed! I'll take it off your hands for $2850 and I'll even come and get myself (cause we are such good friends)!
Seriously...I think you got a good deal depending on the condition of the body. Congrats! Stick around and these people will walk you through every step you are confronted with. When I....well I never would but if I had to, sell my truck I would tell the buyer I would throw in a free lifetime subscription to 24/7 online help of suggestions and questions about, and to help walk you through fixing your nused truck.
You have found a new brotherhood that can't/won't let you down! Welcome FTE 94.5-97 PSD!!!
Keep us posted on the results! Sometimes people get things running and forget about us.
YES! Good point Iallwork! (You may save me the headache later) Please keep us posted! You don't have to be broken to participate! Please stick around, even when up and running.
thanks a lot guys. I will take all those things into consideration. I'm very excited, this has been the truck that I've been waiting for for a long time. thanks again for the valuable info. I plan on posting everytime there's progress so I assume this will be a long thread.

I'll replace all flueds, including gas, and filters before I start the thing. I think the first thing I'll do is make sure those batteries are producing enough juice, than I'll see if the starter is getting enough, than go from there.
