I've been looking at the forum for a few weeks now, and got home yesterday with a 50 F-1 that has as many rust spots as I have questions! The good news is that it starts and is drivable. I'm sure all of you will be able to answer my questions, and here are two to start with. I have a line on some front fenders from a 49, and I've read in many places that they will fit my 50. True? Also, can someone give me names and info on how to get a couple of good books on the F-1's? I'm going to struggle trying to figure out what was stock and some good pictures and specs would help. Thanks. Glad to be here.
I'll try to get some pictures up when I have some time.
Someone will be along with the answers to your questions soon, its too early and not enough coffee for me yet, but from old guy to another just a quick welcome to the site.
Welcome to the forum, fab50! Glad to have you. You have me by only 2 years, so yes there is a lot of us old farts here. I also have a '50 F-1 and in answer to your question, yes, the fenders from a '49 are the same as the '50 as long as it is a F-1. The F-2 and f-3 fenders will work but have larger wheel openings. Most of the old truck vendors carry repair manuals on our trucks. Check out Mac's Antique Auto or Dennis Carpenter. Also check out E-bay as they are always on there. A good manual is the first step in restoring an old vehicle. I was just learning to drive when my truck was new and my dad had a black one for a company vehicle. Spent many hours in the garage making truck noises and shifting the transmission. The best thing about yours is that it is driveable. Drive it for a while and enjoy it for what it is. It will tell you what needs to be changed or updated. Looking forward to following your project.
Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm only 31! I think I was 25 or 26 when I got the Panels.
Mac's currently has a sale on books and manuals through the end of December. Take 20% off by entering promo code BOOKDEC.
Any 48-50 front fenders will bolt up to your cab and frame. The only difference is the size of the truck. F1 had the smallest wheel well opening. F2-F6 had a slightly larger wheel well opening. F7/F8/COE had an even larger wheel well opening and slightly wider fenders.
Main thing when looking at fenders, try not to get confused between F1 and F2-F6 fenders. They look alike except for the wheel well openings.
Welcome, looks like your 2 questions are answered. A '50 F1 is a great truck!
Btw I'm 59, bought my 1949 F1 when I was 24,,,still have it and drive it. Enjoy!
