Shoot... I didn't realize you guys were all so old. I actually think that's a good thing for an old truck forum as someone here (as a collective) has likely experienced every single problem that these trucks can have, which is good from me because I don't know squat (if I did, I probably wouldn't have bought my 51 in the first place). I'm 29, so I have plenty of time to learn through breaking things on my truck.
As far as manuals go, I got mine off ebay a month or so ago for around $30, there's one for sale right now:
Thanks for all the great links. I took your advice and ordered a shop manual (from Mac's) so I can try to find some answers myself and only ask questions about the hard stuff!
Basically the 48-50 F-1 trucks will all interchange. The F-2 and larger trucks have bigger fenders
Somewhere mid year 1950 they did away with the raised bed sides on the beds
Thanks, Bobby. I had already navigated my way to your web site, and the section on body parts is really helpful. I'll make a post if I'm successful on my hunt!
Welcome to the gang. Tons of great info and folks here.
Age has always been confising to me. No matter what age I am people are always telling me to grow up. I think growing up is for babys .
well i have a 55 and its only 2 years older than me. drove a f3 on a farm i worked on pulled 3 potato wagons to the co-op. when you wanted to stop you had to circle the wagons or hit something. big snapring on bumper top speed was 45mph. had a blast with that truck.
i'm old enough to know better than tell my age , especially with the ladies running around here . they may not like old farts with a yard full of partially dissasembled fords and the age would seal the deal ............... by the way welcome !!!!!!!! pay no attention to what the others say about me ...... i'm really , honestly , a sane person .............
Im only 47 as of friday the 13th November. I spent a few hours under the truck today replacing the brake lines on the differental so I feel like you really old guys that are over 50. I have to cut this short ....
I have to find some Advil and get to bed.
I got my first F-1, a '50, in 1977, when I was 15. (you can do the math. lol) It came with the flathead six, with a few extra ventilation holes in the oil pan, and a hole in the side of the block, hidden behind the generator. Built it with a 289, C4 and a '69 F-100 9" rear, with money I earned washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant, and drove it my senior year in high school. That was a lot of fun, and I'm still having some, from time to time. ;-)
