At 300k I had my local ford dealership replace my 6L diesel engine with a remanufacted engine. After I got the truck back it seemed to work ok untill I started towing my trailer, I've driven enough 6.0s to know that my truck didn't have power that it should. On a hill towing the power is not there, I took it back to the dealer and after numerous tests they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
Why is this engine so week?
thanks
If your truck has never been reflashed, you may have become a victim of FICM de-tuning. Ford did this mainly to reduce headgasket and EGR cooler failures; while it worked, but power and fuel economy suffered.
There is, however, a solution...
Two of FTE's vendors: Innovative and Power Hungry Performance tune the FICM back to it's factory state and sometimes better (original power and better fuel economy)
Wow, you must REALLY love that truck. It's an '05, F350. You could have bought another one for not much more.
Pumping that much money into a truck with 300,000 miles...
BTW I have seen a loaded 06 6.0 with a clean oasis for $19k list price and 90k miles (almost bought it but was leery of the 6.0 still and it was a bit of a drive).
Well, if it's been a good truck for 300k, it might be worth it to not risk it on another 6.0. And alot of guys will invest in their trucks if they are already setup the way they want them.
Yeah ouch, but if you have to buy a new one, outfit it, get used to it, put up with NEW problems (possibly) it might be less in the end to repower your existing truck.
