ok thank you for the info on the block heater timer, i will go pick one up at home depot asap, so 3 hrs is minimum for warming up? and sry for posting in last months thread, i still cant figure out how to use this website

Not necessarily. There's no hard and fast rule that's just what a lot of people set it at. The length would really depend on the temperature.
A note about timers for our block heaters, just make sure you get one rated for 15 or 20 amps. It will probably be labeled as "heavy duty". The heaters in our trucks would smoke most of the standard timers out there (we don't want to be burning down anyone's house). Generally speaking 2 hours minimum on the timer and anything over 4 is probably a waste.

I use POR15 line of products and have been very happy with it.

Use Ospho or a similar phosphoric acid metal prep first or you will always have issues with rust coming out from under seams, brackets, rivets, etc.
This is a thin liquid metal prep solution that will leave a finish that resists rust and is ready for paint if you follow the instructions.
