I have developed a ticking sound in my 460 and i am near my oil change so i was wanting to try a engine flush treatment to clean some crud out and remove some varnish. i have heard good things about Risoline(not sure is spelled right) and Auto-RX and just some reagular old ATF.
My question is which one to use and for how long? I have heard run this treatment for 500 miles and i have heard run the engine for 15 mins then shut down and do my oil change. any suggestions? Im also running Rotella 10-30 right now i live up north in Montana so it does get snowy and cold at times. I run Rotella 15-40 in summertime. Do these oils sound good for my truck year and engine size?
I'm sure there would be instructions on the can. 10-30 is fine in real cold weather. It's not so much the oil in cold weather. The battery, starter, with a stone cold engine is working against it too. A cupple of winters back I waited for a sub zero day here in nw Pa. and went out and put a breaker bar on the front crank snout bolt of a 400 I used to run in my truck. It was noticeably harder to turn but nothing like I thought it would be, seemed like it should have spun right over, but I guess too many things are working against it in the cold.
