I have also heard that oven cleaner works well on "caked on grease".
Regular oven cleaner like Easy Off is expensive, even at Wal Mart. I bought 20 cans of the cheap stuff at a Family Dollar Store (funny looks from the cashier) but haven't used it yet. Lots of precautions on the can. Among others "Do not use on...baked enamel".
I WISH our car washes here had hot water in them because I want to clean my engine up too and the best I'm going to be able to do is spray with degreaser, drive a couple miles to the carwash and possibly spray more degreaser on the yuckier spots where I've had cronic leaks on the driver side and then rinse with cold water cuz that's all they offer. *sigh* I might hit up one of the big semi truck washes and see if they've got hot water there...
