Any regrets on ccv mod???

I have been reading alot about the benefits of the ccv mod and decided to do it this weekend. I guess i should have read up a little more on this though. I am wondering if anyone has had any freezing problems with theirs. It gets cold in Montana and I hope i didn't make a mistake. I am also wondering about the leak issuses some members have reported possibly due to the pressure changes due to the mod. I copied Ponyboychris's plan if anyone was wondering. Thanks for the feedback in advance.

No regrets here.

What kind of freezing problems could you incur? I don't see how doing this to a truck exposed to freezing temps could be a detriment.

I too copied Chris' catch-can design, but I haven't built it yet. Being a charter member of Procrastinators Anonymous, you'll understand why!

I read on other threads that some users had the line plug up from frozen vapor somewhere behind the wheel well and were forced to cut and run. Can't believe how much i have learned on this site. I can't wait to do the next mod. Just making sure i didn't rush into this one.

Sounds like they ran the hose too far back. Most guys run the hose right about to the point under the truck where a backseat passengers feet would be.

If you buy the kit from Clay at Riffraff Diesel, you'll be golden. http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/mm5/me...Category_Code=

What does it do exactly? What does it benefit?

I'm lazy today. Instead of typing a bunch, here's a quick cut and paste from ITP's website:

The factory crankcase vent configuration on 99-03 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel Trucks and Excursions sucks. Crankcase vapors are drawn into the intake tract under the intense suction of the turbocharger. These vapors contain a mist of engine oil that collects in the intake tract, turbocharger compressor housing, intercooler tubes and intercooler core. Dirty engine oil in the intake system results in:
  • Messy Oil Fouled Intercooler Tube Boots (can lead to IC Tubes "popping off" under boost)
  • Oil Fouled Intercooler Core (reduced efficiency of the intercooler)
This Crankcase Vent Kit reroutes the crankcase fumes to atmosphere (similar to the "Road Draft Tube" found in heavy duty trucks). This allows for cleaning of the intercooler core and tubes and replacement of the intercooler boots without fear of re-contamination.

Oil saturation of the OEM boots also breaks down the boot itself over time.

Do you have to remove the tubes and boots to clean all the residue out or will the internals self clean overtime once the CCV mod is installed?

The coating will not self-clean.

Stewart, it looks like you have done the F-250 -- why not the ex? Just procrastination? Did you use the rifraf design for your truck?

I did the CCV when I had the truck apart installing the Garrett 38R, bellowed up pipes, and new boots.

When I do the up pipes and replacement boots on the Excursion, I'll also do the CCV mod.

Well -- it has been in the negative double digits the last few days here in Montana and no problems. The exhaust hose is still pumping out fumes and no freezing concerns. If it dosen't happen at these temps i think I will be fine. Thanks for the info Stewart. Next up is foil delete. When it warms up that is.
